Provides programs and services that focus on meeting the social and emotional needs of people living with vision loss to enhance their independence and to be the leader in promoting vision health

  • Nationwide, community-based, registered charity committed to research, public education and vision health for all Canadians
  • Call 1-800-563-2642 for virtual peer support groups, and other CNIB program information - Come to Work, Vision Mate, Adjustment to Sight Loss, etc.
  • Call 705-728-3352, ext 6639 or email carole.hipwell@cnib.ca for SmartLife and Accessible Technology Service
    • Some accessible devices onsite for demonstration and for purchase
    • One on one technology assistance (Call to arrange appointment)
    • Work closely with and make referrals to Vision Loss Rehabilitation services for low vision assessment, orientation & mobility, and independent living
  • CNIB Phone It Forward Program: CNIB receives donations of smartphones
    • Smartphones donated through companies are provided to people with sight loss who would benefit from access to a smartphone. Training can be arranged by request.

Public Comments

Have limited onsite community engagement. Most community engagement like Peer Support, Adjustment to Vision Loss or other programs, are done virtually. People can view monthly offerings by going to the website https://www.cnib.ca and clicking on Programs and Services - Ontario North region. Registration for programs can be done online or by calling 1-800-563-0887 (Call Centre).

  • Anyone experiencing difficulties as a result of a vision loss

  • Drop-in for on-site inventory (e.g. magnifiers, sunglasses, talking timers) and to view and try out higher tech products
