Description (Service)

The Indigenous Family Support Program is designed to strengthen parenting and caregiving skills for urban Indigenous families, specifically targeting children aged 0 to 6 years. This program supports the spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being of young children and their families, helping parents and caregivers navigate the early stages of child development. The program offers a range of culturally-based activities and services that encourage effective parenting, safety awareness, healthy lifestyle choices, and good life teachings.

Objective:

The program aims to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and support to foster healthy, well-rounded children and families. Through culturally relevant teachings, parents are guided in making informed choices to nurture the well-being of their children.

Indigenous Family Support Program Services:

  • Parenting Support:

    One-on-one parenting guidance, "Daddy and Me" and "Mommy and Me" programs, Parent's Circle, Parenting Classes, and Reading & Literacy Programs.

  • Family Wellness:

    Family and Well-Baby Clinics, Healthy Meals on a Budget, Cooking with Kids, and Baby Food Making.

  • Cultural Engagement:

    Traditional Cultural Celebrations, seasonal family events, and community-driven Clothing Exchange.

  • Child Development & Support:

    Little Cubs Playgroup, Self-esteem workshops, and support for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) awareness.

  • Resource Assistance:

    Access to essential baby products (diapers, nursing pumps, formula) and referrals to community resources and safety workshops.

  • Community Building:

    Seasonal family fun events, Community Resources, and Parent's Committee to provide ongoing support and connection.
