French Converstion Falicitator

The conversation facilitator will lead weekly french conversation with independant living residents. 

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leading Discussions: Guides conversations, ensuring everyone has a chance to speak and share their thoughts.   
  • Creating a Comfortable Atmosphere: Foster a relaxed environment where learners feel comfortable making mistakes and practicing their French.   
  • Providing Support and Encouragement:  motivate participants to speak French and offer assistance when needed.   
  • Varying Activities: May incorporate games, group activities, or discussions around specific themes to keep the sessions engaging.   Candidate must be fluent in French      

 

Trail Maintenance / Land Stewards / Hike Leaders / Other   Simcoe County 
Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club

The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit group that maintains and stewards the Bruce Trail and its lands from the western edge of the Blue Mountains to Blantyre. Volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to conservation and the Bruce Trail in a variety of ways.

Trail Maintenance volunteers are part of a roster that may include: sawyers, trail builders, grass-cutters and trimmers, trail clean-up, etc.

Volunteer Land Stewards actively care for each of the properties that are owned or managed by the Bruce Trail Conservancy by visiting an assigned property at least twice a year, completing annual reports on the conditions of the land, and providing input into the stewardship plans.

Hike Leaders plan and guide hikers on the trail in organized hikes approximately once per month, in all four seasons if possible.

Other opportunities to volunteer in Communications and Publicity, Outreach, or on the Board are available as well.

All volunteers will receive training and equipment as necessary. Commitment times are flexible. Please contact the Club to find the opportunity that's right for you! 

Cycle for Hope   Grey County  Simcoe County 
Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre

We need volunteers to assist at our Cycle For Hope fundraiser, we have a number of volunteer positions that need to be filled: 

Volunteer Roles: 

1. Set-up and tear down

Role Duties

  • Help set up the event site
  • Put up tables, tents and banners
  • Clean up and put everything away once the ride is complete 

2. Registration

Role Duties

  • Welcome and register the rider
  • Provide rider with appropriate wristband and instruct them to place it on and that it will be used as their lunch voucher after their ride.

3. Route Directions/Nutrition Station

Role Duties:

  • Ensure that riders are on the right track and making correct turns
  • As Riders approach you, either point or vocalize where they are going and cheer them on!
  • Offer fruit and waters that is available for Riders
  • When the ride is complete on your way back - do a quick sweep of any riders along the way

Responsibilities and Duties:

Pick up multiple dogs at various locations and transport to designated locations for Canines in the Classroom student training and refinement training in Barrie, using the van provided by COPE.

Qualifications and preferred Skills

Clean driving record, physically able to lift 30 pounds, one year experience of owning and/or handling dogs, previous experience driving transit or larger vehicles.

Level 2 criminal check required prior to driving the van.

River restoration volunteer   Simcoe County

We will be stepping into chest waders and wading into waist-deep water to anchor old Christmas trees into the streambank. This not only reduces erosion and stabilizes the streambanks, it creates habitat for young trout and salmon, which hatch on the site every year.

Purpose: To assist with the transportation needs of children and youth involved with Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions. 
Responsibilities: 
 Drive the child(ren)/youth in your own vehicle to an appointment/activity, and pick up the child(ren)/youth at an appointed place and time 
 Assist the child(ren)/youth to get in and out of the vehicle safely 
 Escort the child(ren)/youth to and from the appointment activity 
Requirements 
 18 years of age and older 
 A vulnerable sector check free of charges or convictions 
 Possess a valid Ontario Driver's license and a safe driving record 
 Attend agency car seat training 
 A clean driver's abstract (obtained from Service Ontario) 
 Have access to a road worthy and safe vehicle 
 Minimum of $1 Million liability insurance 
 Patience and understanding 
 Reliable and punctual 
 Knowledge of the community 
 Able to offer physical support to the child(lifting), youth or adult 
 Trustworthy

Responsibilities

  • Attend all scheduled SEAC meetings when the LDAYS SEAC representative is unavailable.

  • Familiarize yourself with the agendas and reports before meetings to ensure active participation.

  • Advocate for and represent the viewpoints, interests, and concerns of students with learning disabilities.

  • Ensure to communicate and stay in contact with the LDAYS to understand key priorities and concerns.

  • Be available to attend training sessions and LDAO SEAC Circular meetings as needed.

  • Inform SEAC members about LDAYS initiatives, programs, and events.

  • After meetings, provide updates to LDAYS about any relevant information, such as changes within the board, new programs, or any other developments.

  • Positively represent LDAYS, contributing to discussions, and providing input on the enhancement of special education plans and policies as needed.

Time Commitment

  • Attend approximately 10 meetings annually from September to June, on Wednesday nights.

  • Dedicate about 3 hours per month, including meeting preparation, attendance, and follow-up activities.
