Curbside Collection

    • Properties receive garbage cart collection every other week

  • Recycling
    • As of May 1, 2024, residential recycling is not collected by the City of Barrie. An organization called Circular Materials is responsible for collecting and managing residential recycling in Barrie through their collection contractor.
    • For residential properties, visit CircularMaterials.ca/barrie for your recycling collection schedule.
    • For business/institutional properties, see for details, recycling is collected weekly for most properties-twice weekly for downtown BIA business/institutional properties,

  • Organics
    • Properties receive organics cart collection weekly, see Organics Collection for details, see Organics Collection for details
  • Yard Waste
    • Yard waste collection occurs every other week in April through November . Christmas Tress are collected weekly in January, see Yard Waste Collection for details

Composting

All leaf and yard waste collected curbside throughout Barrie is brought to the landfill where it is composted into organic matter, residents can also start their own backyard compost.

Battery Collection

Electronic Waste

  • electronics, including cell phones can be take to the Barrie Landfill site for disposal in the electronic recycling program for free
  • another option for recycling electronics is Recycle my Electronics, search for a drop-off location nearest you

Hazardous Waste

Residents can bring in any household hazardous wastes and/or batteries for safe disposal through the Household Hazardous Waste Depot located at the Landfill Site

  • all hazardous material should be in original containers

Barrie households are serviced under the City of Barrie municipal curbside collection program. For information on the curbside programs visit barrie.ca.

For collection schedule see Community Information and Waste Reduction Calendar. Calendar is usually delivered by Canada Post to residents in early December

  • Residents are required to place garbage at curbside on their collection day by 7 am to ensure collection (No delays in collection on statutory holidays, except for Christmas and New Year's Day)
  • Landfill Site Tue-Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
  • Hazardous Waste Depot, Sat 8:30 am-3:30 pm
